ENGLISH STORYTELLER

This week we have had the pleasure of enjoying a storyteller in English for the whole centre, selecting different tales for the diverse levels in our school. A lovely girl gave voice to the protegonists of each story and, besides of it, she displayed a lot of books that we could acquire to continue learning English whenever we want. Next we show you some photos of our youngest children paying careful attention to the event.

EASTER

Dear families; Last Friday, on March 31st we celebrated Easter in our school by carrying out the traditional Easter Eggs Hunt during the first part of the morning in the Infant stage and the Primary grades from 1st to 4th, and later the Easter Bonnets Parade. These last were created by our witty children at school and also by the families having scholarised children in the Infant stage, so we are very thankful for all of them. It was a success and we had a lot of fun!

'PANCAKE DAY'

Hello again, dear families! Last Tuesday, February 21st, the festivity of 'Pancake Day' (or also called 'Shrove Tuesday') was celebrated, which deals with a typical English tradition of Catholic origin celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), that is, before the start of the 40 days before Easter. This time was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were "consecrated" (absolved of their sins). To commemorate such an act, a bell was rung to call people to confession. This came to be called the "Pancake Bell" and it is still being made today. So Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to consume eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast, and pancakes were the perfect way to consume these ingredients. In this way, in our bilingual center we wanted to bring this tradition closer to our students and for this reason we carried out the well-known 'Pancake Race' on the same day and the day after by involving our families of the 4-years old-groups, we cooked real pancakes and learnt even more about this funny celebration, through interactive groups. Here below we show you a string of photos so that you can also immerse yourselves in this curious tradition!

'THANKSGIVING DAY'

We are ending the term with the Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on the last 24th and 25th of November in every school grade and within the English area. Through this American festivity our students have conveyed how grateful they are in their lives for something in particular (family, friends, pets, home ...). Consequently, we have made together a turkey and decorated its body with personalized feathers, which contained words or prayers in which our students expressed their thanks. In this way, we have linked this dynamic with the theme of Christmas, a time to share with loved ones and to be thankful for something.

JOLLY PHONICS IN THE INFANT STAGE

In this school course we are working on the English phonics with the 4 and 5 years old children through the well known method 'Jolly Phonics'. Our students learn the letters' sounds thanks to their connection to animals or common objects near them, gestures and songs. Similarly, they start relating sounds and graphemes. Then, in this first term and in both grades we have worked above all on the group 1, which contains the consonants S, I, T, P, A, y N. Next, you can see a phonics dynamic that has been very interesting and funny for our 5 years old students (who are a little more advanced in the alphabet than the 4 years old students), in which they have practiced segmenting and blending processes and have been able to build words.
