¡Hola de nuevo, estimadas familias!
El pasado martes, día 21 de febrero, se celebró la festividad del 'Pancake Day' (o también llamado 'Shrove Tuesday', que hace referencia al Martes de Carnaval), la cual trata de una típica tradición inglesa de origen católico festejada el día anterior al Miércoles de Ceniza (el primer día de Cuaresma), es decir, antes del inicio de los 40 días previos a la Pascua. Esta época era tradicionalmente un tiempo de ayuno y el martes de carnaval, los cristianos anglosajones se confesaban y eran "consagrados" (absueltos de sus pecados). Para conmemorar tal acto, se tocaba una campana para llamar a la gente a confesarse. Esto llegó a llamarse "Pancake Bell" y todavía hoy en la actualidad se sigue haciendo. Así pues, el martes de carnaval era la última oportunidad para consumir huevos y grasas antes de embarcarse en el ayuno de Cuaresma y los panqueques eran la forma perfecta de consumir estos ingredientes.
De esta forma, en nuestro centro bilingüe hemos querido acercar esta tradición a nuestro alumnado y para ello realizamos el mismo día la tan conocida 'Pancake Race' (carrera de pancakes) y, al día siguiente y haciendo partícipes a nuestras familias de los grupos de 2º de Ed.Infantil, los cocinamos y aprendimos todavía más sobre esta divertida celebración, mediante grupos interactivos. Last Tuesday, February 21st, the festivity of 'Pancake Day' (or also called 'Shrove Tuesday') was celebrated, which deals with a typical English tradition of Catholic origin celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), that is, before the start of the 40 days before Easter. This time was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were "consecrated" (absolved of their sins). To commemorate such an act, a bell was rung to call people to confession. This came to be called the "Pancake Bell" and it is still being made today. So Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to consume eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast, and pancakes were the perfect way to consume these ingredients.
In this way, in our bilingual center we wanted to bring this tradition closer to our students and for this reason we carried out the well-known 'Pancake Race' on the same day and the day after by involving our families of the 4-years old-groups, we cooked real pancakes and learnt even more about this funny celebration, through interactive groups.
